Global leader in online vehicle remarketing and recycling, Copart UK, have announced expansion plans for their Sandy Operation Centre as part of their ongoing growth programme.

Plans for a 27-acre expansion of their Sandy Operation Centre in Bedfordshire is yet another strand of Copart’s extensive reinvestment strategy, which combines a programme of land acquisition with continuous improvement at existing sites and reinvestment in transport, services, and technology.

The planned expansion will provide a total of just under 60 operational acres at Sandy and will double the annual storage capacity at this location to 80,000 vehicles. Bedfordshire is an area in which Copart has made a significant investment this year.

The company’s Customer Excellence Centre opened at Franklin Court, Bedford earlier this year, housing Copart’s growing customer service functions, including their Claims Settlement, Customer Support Centre, Vehicle Engineering and Operational Audit teams. This announcement follows recent updates about expansions at Copart’s Operation Centres in Bristol, Wisbech and York, as well as plans for a new 31-acre site in East Kilbride which will double the company’s operational capabilities in Scotland

Phil Briggs, Copart UK’s Director of Operation Centres, Transport & Engineering, said:

“Our plans to develop a further 27 acres at this location will further strengthen our storage capacity for customers operating in Bedfordshire and surrounding areas in the South East of England.

“The planned expansion at our Sandy Operation Centre is set to double our operational capabilities at this location, enabling us to continue providing industry leading vehicle storage and services.”

Jane Pocock, Managing Director of Copart UK & Ireland, said:

“Having recently opened the doors to our new Customer Excellence Centre, these expansion plans for our Sandy Operation Centre will further strengthen our presence and operational capabilities in Bedfordshire and will provide more future employment opportunities in this area.

“Despite the challenges of the past year, it has been and continues to be, an exciting period of growth and re-investment for Copart. We have never stood still and are determined to keep pushing forward with our ambitious growth programme, throughout what is going to be another exciting year ahead.”

Subject to all relevant planning permissions, Copart anticipates the additional 27 acres at the Sandy Operation Centre, which currently employs around 80 people, to be operational by December 2021.

BVSF strategic partner, KTG Caravans and Campers (KTG), specialises in a particular niche in the vehicle salvage industry – caravans and motorhomes.

Since 2010, when KTG started with some assistance from the Prince’s Trust, it has helped insurance companies and claims handlers save time and reduce the costs of claims with its full caravan salvage service, offering recovery, storage and disposal.

Insurance claims

KTG works with a number of insurance companies and has recovered caravans and motorhomes from across the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe. It wants to be a preferred salvage agent for more insurance companies in this sector.

The caravans or motorhomes KTG recovers for insurance claims have usually been damaged in an accident or other incident (e.g. fire or flooding), need recovering due to illness of the owner, or have previously been stolen.

KTG will undertake repairs for the insurance company or pay a percentage of the vehicle’s pre-accident value (depending on the category of the damage: CAT A, B, S or N) and then do any repairs itself or dismantle it for parts.

Vehicle dismantling

KTG has its own workshop for dismantling caravans and as a professional caravan salvage agent, it is, of course, fully Insured, licensed and registered with the Environment Agency.

When a caravan is dismantled, it is completely stripped of everything – windows, upholstery, cupboards, sinks, taps, ovens, etc. – until it is just a bare shell. This is then passed on to a local scrap metal company. Any gas bottles are passed on to another local business, rather than storing them on-site.

All parts removed from a caravan are stored and displayed in KTG’s warehouse and then sold to consumers – mainly local people, but it does also post parts all over the country. All parts are checked and sold with a three month warranty.

COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a mix of positive and negative affect on caravan salvage for KTG. Although it has generated a significant rise in demand for new and used caravans and motorhomes for staycations, so far, the number of caravans that have required salvaging has declined because the lockdowns have kept caravan and motorhome owners at home while campsites have had to stay closed.

Expanding

To coincide with its 10th anniversary in 2020, KTG took the opportunity to acquire adjoining premises to expand its space for displaying new and used caravans and motorhomes for sale and increase its capacity for repairs, storage and dismantling. This expansion also included a warehouse to store parts for the caravan spares side of its business.

Conclusion

Caravan and motorhome salvage clearly needs a professional specialist like KTG that knows how to handle them and repair, dismantle or dispose of them.

As a family business run by experienced caravanners, KTG has the experience and passion to provide the best service for insurance claims.

Global leader in online vehicle remarketing, Copart UK, have announced expansion plans for their Wisbech Operation Centre as part of their ongoing growth programme.

This follows the company’s recent announcement of their plans to develop a further 23 acres at their Bristol Operation Centre, making this location set to become a 63-acre ‘Super Centre’ for the South West.

Plans for a 5-acre expansion of their Wisbech Operation Centre in Cambridgeshire is yet another strand of Copart’s extensive reinvestment strategy, which combines a programme of land acquisition with continuous improvement at existing sites and reinvestment in transport, services, and technology.

Currently a 16-acre site, plans to develop a further 5 acres will increase overall vehicle storage capacity by around 35%.

Phil Briggs, Copart UK’s Director of Operation Centres, Transport & Engineering, said:

“Our plans to develop a further 5 acres at this location will further strengthen our storage capacity for customers operating in the east of England.

“Annually, this expansion will provide storage for just under 7,000 additional vehicles at our Wisbech Operation Centre and will enable us to continue providing our industry leading services.”

Jane Pocock, Managing Director of Copart UK & Ireland, said:

“We’re delighted to start the new year on a positive note, with this investment into the extension and improvement of our Wisbech Operation Centre. We are starting 2021 as we mean to go on, as a market leader with a passion and determination to keep on growing and improving our services to customers.

“Our ambitious growth programme is set to go from strength to strength this year, as we continue our investment into land, technology and unrivalled operational capabilities.”

Subject to all relevant planning permissions, Copart anticipates the additional 5 acres at Wisbech to be operational by spring 2021.

In yet another strand of their ongoing growth programme, global leader in online vehicle remarketing, Copart UK, are set to double their operational capabilities in Scotland with the announcement of a new Operation Centre near Glasgow.

Plans for a new 31-acre site in East Kilbride will support the company’s growth in Scotland, in addition to Copart’s existing Operation Centre in Whitburn, and sister company UPI based in Inverkeithing.

Expansion in Scotland is part of Copart’s ambitious growth programme to meet continued demand from their customers, including most of the UK’s major insurance companies.

Situated near Glasgow, the new site in East Kilbride, alongside Copart’s Whitburn site which serves the Edinburgh area, will provide strategic operational coverage for both of Scotland’s major cities.

Phil Briggs, Copart UK’s Director of Operation Centres, Transport & Engineering, said:

“We’re very excited to announce our plans to develop a new Operation Centre in East Kilbride, which will provide annual storage capacity for over 49,000 vehicles. Alongside our existing 30-acre site in Whitburn, it offers the potential for Copart to handle around 100,000 cars per year across Scotland.

“Situated in close proximity to Glasgow, East Kilbride is a perfect location to further support growth and enable us to provide our industry leading products and services in Scotland.”

East Kilbride is a strategic location with good transport links, providing Copart with further storage capacity and scale to offer their fast and efficient surge management services, in response to the extreme weather-related events which can typically affect Scotland.

This announcement follows recent updates from the company about plans to develop a further 23 acres at their Bristol Operation Centre to create a 63-acre ‘Super Centre’ for the South West of England, and an expansion of their Wisbech Operation Centre in Cambridgeshire.

Jane Pocock, Managing Director of Copart UK & Ireland, said:

“We’re delighted to announce yet another strand of Copart’s extensive reinvestment strategy, which combines a programme of land acquisition with continuous improvement at existing sites and reinvestment in transport, services, and technology.

“As a market leader with relentless passion to keep growing and improving our services to customers, we’re very excited to extend our investment programme into Scotland, further strengthening our unrivalled operational capabilities in this part of the UK.”

Subject to all relevant planning permissions, Copart anticipates the Operation Centre in East Kilbride to be available for use by the end of 2021, and fully operational in 2022.
