Home BVSF News AGM April 2010

AGM/Seminar 2010.

Although not as well attended as we all would have hoped, a number of members being stuck abroad due the volcanic ash issue, the Seminar/AGM went without a hitch. I am very sad to say that Sue Morgan was prevented from attending at the last minute as she was rushed into hospital 2 days prior to the event in considerable pain. Sue now requires an operation and the membership will be kept informed as to her progress. We wish Sue a speedy recovery.

Alan Greenouff, in the centre of the top table confirmed that he was retiring at the end of April 2010, although he was happy to retain the title of Chairman of the Federation as proposed by the Management Committee, so that his expertise could be called upon if required and that he could retake the reigns at times of holidays.

To Alan's left is our Patron the Earl Atlee and on his right is our speaker of the day Gyles Brandreth.

The appointment of Roger West as Secretary General of the Federation was approved. Congratulations were expressed to Roger on his appointment and he was wished every success in the role in the future.

Alan then gave our main speaker, Gyles Brandreth the floor, whose speech was absolutely riveting. The content ranged from politics to vehicles and back through illnesses. The general consensus being that Gyles was one of the best, if not the best speaker we had employed.

It was then the turn of Russ Timpson from the Fire Strategy Company to give a fascinating talk on the assessment and management of fire risks, including a screen presentation which included a short film showing how quickly a fire can take hold in a building. It certainly was an eye opener.

Dean Lander from Thatcham then took to the stage to summarise the proposed BSI national standard for recycled parts and its approach to parts certification. This provoked a number of questions from the floor.

Following an excellent evening meal we were entertained by Rod Woodward, an excellent comedian although at times this was at the expense of the top table!

The proceeds of the raffle this year were going to BEN (Motor and Allied Trades Benevolent Fund). This charity was chosen by last years winner of the BVSF/Combellack award, Richard Martin of Doncaster Motor Spares. Seen here with Alan.

The conclusion of the evening was the presentation of the BVSF/Combellack award. This year going to Alan Greenouff for his achievements during his time as Chairman/Secretary General. The award was presented by Dick Smith. An old e.mail was found and the following words sum up the reason for Alan receiving this award. “No words truly reflect the work and dedication you have shown to a task that must have been a challenge…..you have steered us with great accuracy through the troubled waters and never let us down". Well done Alan.
