DVLA set up a business services team

I’m very excited to write this, my first blog since starting in my new role, as Head of DVLA’s new Business Development team.

I officially start in post on the 15 December 2015 and I’m working with Damian Lawson, Mark Fish and Steve Hartnoll who form the new Business development team and we work to the Commercial Director, Andrew Falvey.

Business Development team

The team has been set up as a result of the Reilly Review, published earlier this year, which highlighted the need for DVLA to build externally funded opportunities as one of our main priorities.

In line with DVLA’s 3 year strategic plan the team will be looking for ‘new opportunities’ to generate income that will contribute to our overheads.

DVLA assets

As more and more of our services and transactions go online, the proportion of work linked to this as opposed to paper processing will increase. DVLA holds numerous assets which could be exploited for the benefit of the taxpayer, this includes a:

  • state-of-the-art printing facility that is able to provide premium quality services
  • continuously maintained database of vehicles and drivers, which are much-used by the police and other stakeholders and there is a significant digital business engaged in the sale of personal registrations
  • experienced and cost-efficient workforce with a wide mix of skills…we’ve already provided award winning online services for government

DVLA will now start making best use of these opportunities as a service provider both for government and the private sector.

We’re keen to work with public and private sector organisations to develop an excellence agenda with local partners as part of a broader economic development approach within Wales.
