Sadly this action by Autotrader has the

possibility of doing exactly the opposite.

 News from Auto Trader.

To help buyers compare cars fairly on Auto Trader, we're making some changes to how cars are displayed. From 23rd April 2014 we'll be using MIAFTR (Motor Insurance Anti Fraud and Theft Register) data to automatically identify cars on Auto Trader that are in Insurance Category C or D. To give buyers more information about cars they're interested in, we'll add a label to all adverts for Cat C and D...

Response from the BVSF

Unfortunately in so doing Autotrader are proposing to display inaccurate and misleading information, particularly in the case of Category D vehicles.

They clearly state that a Category D vehicle is uneconomical to repair which technically of course is not the case. As the Salvage code explains these are vehicles whose repair cost DOES NOT exceed the pre accident value, therefore technically they are an economic repair, the insurer choosing to treat as a Constructive Total Loss due to other circumstances, perhaps a parts delay, pressure from an Insd or excessive and unavoidable hire charges.

The BVSF have written to Autotrader, pointing out the error in the explanation and suggesting an alternative but as yet Autotrader have not confirmed that they will re-write the statement.
